Do Student Lives Matter‽

Do Student Lives Matter.

Should DU and other prominent Universities really need to conduct Exams?

What can be its impact on Students Lives? Let's know in the Blog written below.

   Greetings to all my Friends.

Covid-19 is in its full swing and the cases are on a steep rise.
Currently, India ranks third in terms of COVID Cases. According to estimates it won't take longer for India to be No.1 in terms of COVID cases.

UGC on 29th April issued guidelines for the Final Year Students stating that it is mandatory for Varsities to conduct Exams by 31st July either Online or Offline.

Now this deadline has been extended till 30st of September.

However Students of the First and Second year will be promoted on the basis of Internal Assessments and projects.

 From here the question arises:-

Is this the right time to conduct Examinations!?
A senior official from UGC said that in order to maintain credibility and academic prudence it is utmost necessary to conduct the final year exams.

When it comes to Higher Education, Asia (mainly China & India) account for 40% of all the passing graduates in Academic year 2020-21 in which India's share is 12%.

In this turmoil States such as Punjab, Haryana and Delhi have ordered to cancel the final year exams.

Politicians like Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee wrote PM Modi, urging him to drop the plan of conducting Final Year Exams.

India's Mainstream Media is not focusing on these issues.

Mental Health of students' is in constant decline.
There is adverse effect on mental health of students.

Problems being faced by the students :-

1:- There are lots of students who live in villages with little or no access to Wi-Fi, Laptop, Smartphone... This is giving rise to the digital divide in India between the affluent and impoverished students.

Amid all this, a girl hailing from Kerala committed suicide because she was unable to join online classes.

Who will demand justice for her?

Recently Delhi University conducted Open Book Exams in which many students couldn't register and those who were not able to register were sidelined by saying that they can give exams in off-line mode when all this gets back to normal and University reopens.

On carving out a solution from all this :-

Previous year Internals and Assessments can form the basis of assessing and awarding degrees to final year students so that students can apply for the jobs as well as higher studies.
