SSC Tier-1 Exams to be replaced by NRA CET: Check Common Eligibility Test by National Recruitment Agency for SSC CGL/CHSL/MTS/Sub Inspector/Constable/ Stenographer/Other SSC Exams
How will NRA CET work for Government Jobs?
Candidates interested in applying for various government jobs – like SSC, RRB and IBPS Banking Jobs, would have to register at the single registration NRA portal. There would be one registration id for the candidate. Once registered, the candidates can then appear for the examination.
NRA would release the schedule for the CET, which would be conducted twice every year. The single examination fees would be applicable and candidates need not appear for multiple examinations. Just one CET score would be applicable.
The exam would be conducted in online mode at 1000 examination centres designated by the government across the country. Special focus is being given to setting up an examination centre in every district of the country with a special thrust on creating examination infrastructure in 117 aspirational districts. Candidates would be able to choose the medium of instruction from 12 major Indian languages.
Though the details of the test are not clear, based on the preliminary examinations conducted at present, it can be suggested that the examination may be 1 hour or 3 hour long tests in MCQ format. The details of the same would be released once the schedule is released.
Once the exam is conducted, the candidates would be provided with their CET score, which would be valid for a period of three years. This CET Score can then be used for applying for the various RRB, IBPS or Banking and SSC jobs, as notified from time to time. As to whether there would be a cut off for various exams or if there would be a simple minimum CET score requirement has not been clarified as yet.
What is Common Eligibility Test – CET?
Let us start by understanding what a CET means. As the name suggests, it is a common examination which would be conducted by the NRA to check your eligibility for the various government jobs/ recruitments. It has three basic components, namely
Common – it is common (or same) for all the candidates appearing for the posts. Also, it would be common across examinations for various categories (based on qualifying criteria of 10th, 12th pass or graduates) for different jobs.
Eligibility – meaning it would merely check the eligibility of the candidates to appear for the recruitment process and is not same as a recruitment examination. To further explain, it is like a preliminary or Tier 1 examination where the general and basic aptitude of the candidate is tested. It is not particularly related to the job that you are seeking but more a test of your understanding of basics for the particular level (class 10, 12 or graduate). Also, it is merely to check the eligibility and does not mean that you would be selected.
Test – it’s an examination. This would be an online examination and would be time bound. Candidates would be required to answer a set of specific questions in the given time span.
