Assam Floods: The Other Side of the Story

Assam Floods: The Other Side of the Story

Greetings to all my Friends.

As we all know the state of Assam is facing severe floods.
Around 25 lakh people in 26 districts have been affected.
It is sixth worst flood since 1988, around 32 years ago when death toll was 46 and 5.6 million people were affected.
The floods in 1988 affected states such as UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam.

Floods affect people as well as wildlife by 20th of July, floods have taken 84 lives.

And talking about Wildlife more than 80% of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve(KNPTR) is submerged in water.

Fun Fact :- UNESCO declared Kaziranga a World Heritage site in 1985 and it has been declared as a tiger reserve in 2007.
Kaziranga National park which lies between Brahmaputra river and Karbi Anglong Hills; lies in flood prone area.

But despite all this destruction, damage and (loss of lives, property) outbreak of deadly diseases.

Shockingly enough, used PPE (personal protective equipment) kits from hospitals and COVID Care Centres are being washed up in floods.

But
Do floods have benefits? Is it beneficial for the wildlife of Kaziranga ecosystem- for the ecosystem of the wetlands…?
Let's see other side of the story.

Researchers believe that floods are necessary for Kaziranga.
Now a list of things that happen due to floods in the riverine ecosystem.

Floods help replenish Kaziranga, as water bodies maintain its landscape of wetlands and grasslands.

The floods also help to get rid of unwanted plants, such as water hyacinth, otherwise grasslands would have become Woodlands.

Fish Population is also restored when the receding water of floods, carry marine life in Brahmaputra river.

But there is a catch, earlier a severe flood would come once in 10 years now they happen every other year.

Climate change models predict that floods will become increasingly devastating with each passing year.

From year 2016-20, excluding 2018 all years have witnessed high floods.

As we know floods up to a certain degree are necessary evil in fact beneficial for the survival of ecosystem of the state.

Now let's come to the part:- what States can do, and they are actually doing on ground level to avoid disease outbreak.

Door-to-door vaccination is organised every year in pre floods period which is a good thing and should be carried every year.

Conservative initiatives for Karbi Anglong Hills which plays a crucial role in supporting animals in the times of floods, experts believe that emphasis should be on securing wildlife corridor maintaining and constructing more wildlife corridors.

More and more artificial islands should be made because the old ones are in the dilapidated form.

What is making Rupee Gain value, in recent days??

What is making Rupee Gain value, in recent days??  Greetings Indian Rupee rose to a new high of 73.40, owing to powerful FPIs Foreign Portfolio Investors. FDI and FPI, there are two types of Investment route in India. FPIs are using foreign rate differential to bring dollars.  Incoming Dollar in India's stock market and steady growth in other Asian currencies, helped rupee to be stronger.  According to experts, in upcoming months FPIs can see a surge. RBI's Role When RBI buys dollars, it releases equivalent amount in Rupees, which could put pressure on inflation and yields. It would be interesting to see RBI's next move in upcoming months. Change in Federal Reserve's Policy:- US has also distributed stimulus to its citizens, which brought hopes in investors, leading stock market to a new high.  New Policies will help keep interest rates lower, stimulate growth to tackle unemployment. This will help emerging markets like India to attract more capital flow. Thank...

Public Policy on Social Media

Public Policy on Social Media Greetings,  The contemporary government is being questioned, for its allegedly escaping the scrutiny of social media giant. Based on an article in Wall Street Journal which claimed that Facebook didn't targeted hateful/ hate spreading posts by BJP.  In 2009, critics noticed Holocaust deniers on platform. In 2015 same was discussed with CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Germany passed a law in 2017 regarding Hate Speech. Facebook has been accused of tolerating posts from POTUS Donald Trump.  It has come in notice that Facebook has asked legal office in India to conduct human rights audit of its platform. Facebook doesn't want to be making rules and regulations regarding content on its platform. Facebook deploys third party companies for monitoring content.  India's Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, protects platforms from having liability for content uploaded on them.  but Trump as well as current government in India, are worki...

India's economy for the rest of the year

India's economy for the rest of the year. For India to perform better in economic terms:-Two Factors are important Process of Gradual Unlocking With total lockdown in april, things are starting to change in August and September. Companies are opened up and this economic growth was also observed in Industrial of Industrial Production. (IIP) As there is no assurance that there will be no local lockdowns by state governments. This disrupts supply chains and businesses get affected. Industries risk expanding their business.  The second factor is revival aka stimulus package by the government.  When it is distributed? To whom it is distributed? And How much is distributed? Government has provided food for the poor, and lending facilities by various financial institutions.  By increasing capital expenditure, the government can begin a virtuous cycle of creating assets as well as providing employment.
